The Trial Balance Report provides a comprehensive account balance snapshot. Review debit and credit balances across assets, liabilities, and equity to evaluate financial status.

Prerequisites

  1. Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Pro, or Windows Terminal Server (2012 and above)
  2. Microsoft Office 365
  3. Sage 50 US edition (2021 and above)
  4. Internet connection

What the Report Does 

The Trial Balance Report aggregates financial data and evaluates debit and credit equality.

  1. Review specific account balances, including checking accounts, accumulated depreciation, payroll liabilities, and sales taxes.
  2. Track current and noncurrent assets against liabilities to ensure accurate financial bookkeeping.
  3. Verify total debits equal total credits on specific dates to maintain balanced ledgers.

How to Use the Report 

Step 1: Input As of Date in cells D3

 

Step 2: Click Refresh on the XLGL ribbon. 

Step 3: Review the result

Customization Options 

Modify the date in cell D3 to display data representing different accounting periods.

Request a custom version using the integrated customization link on the Instructions worksheet or by clicking this link.

Common Use Cases 

  1. Evaluate total debits and credits prior to period-end closings.
  2. Analyze specific account balances, deductions, payables, and Sales Tax Payable.
  3. Identify discrepancies within the general ledger whenever debits and credits mismatch.

Troubleshooting 

  1. Issues: Zero values appear on the worksheet.
  2. Solution A: Ensure your account possesses the necessary permissions to access the Accounts & General Ledger.
  3. Solution B: Verify the specific date falls within an active fiscal year.

FAQs 

  1. Q: Is there an option to customize the report to compare trial balances per month?
  2. A: This specific report is not designed for comparative analysis. Use alternative reports, such as the Automated Trial Balance.

Best Practices 

  1. Save a backup copy of the Report before making significant changes. 
  2. Regularly review the report to track progress and identify trends early.  
  3. Customize the report to focus on key performance indicators relevant to your business.
